How Does CranioSacral Therapy Work?

The craniosacral system is a semi-closed hydraulic system which includes the meningeal membranes that surround and support the brain and spinal cord, the bones of the head to which they attach and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain. Ideally the structures are all well aligned, the cerebrospinal fluid can flow round the brain and spinal cord well. Using our ‘listening hands’ tuned to the feeling of the craniosacral rhythm, we feel how well the rhythm is reflecting out to the rest of the body and what we may be able to do to improve its functioning.

Benefits of CST

Patients find CranioSacral Therapy effective for a wide range of problems associated with discomfort, pain and dysfunction. This approach also appears to complement and stimulate the body's natural healing processes, so CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure.

What can I expect from a treatment?

Treatments are done on a clothed body, with the receiver usually lying on their back on a treatment table. If this is not comfortable we can adapt the table, or treat people on their side or even sitting.

Typically you will feel relaxed both during and after a session, though some sessions may feel very different from others and all bodies are different. Afterwards you may feel very energised and raring to go, or you may feel tired and want to rest. It is entirely dependent on your own body and the way it responds to what it changed. It is ideal if you can arrange your day to allow for any of these responses.
